Each car owner must monitor the condition of the filters in their own car, regardless of the make, model and cost of the vehicle. This is due to the fact that a poor condition of the filters can cause serious malfunctions. Fortunately, every car owner can monitor the status of filters, as there is absolutely nothing complicated about it.

The main types of filters:

  1. oil
  2. air
  3. fuel
  4. cabin filter

The best oil filter can rightly be considered one of the integral parts of the engine.

Almost all modern vehicles use two types of oil filters. This is the filter assembly, and the filter insert. Filter insert is an ordinary filter corrugated element made of wax paper that is inserted into a glass of oil filters that is part of the engine.

Engine oil creates a sturdy oil film for perfect sliding of moving parts, reducing friction and wear. The oil filter captures contaminants that are formed during the operation of the engine oil and are there in suspension. This can be metal chips, rust, dirt, oxidation products, soot particles, carbon deposits and other impurities that the motor oil circulating inside the engine carries with it. If good oil cleaning is not ensured, these contaminants fall into the friction zones: main bearings, on the surface of the cylinder walls, pistons, crankshaft and other vital parts of the car engine and act there as abrasive mass, which leads to significantly accelerated wear of the moving parts of the engine. This is especially true for modern cars.

In addition, oil filters have a bypass valve, which opens when the excess oil pressure increases due to severe clogging of the filter element, or when the oil viscosity is incorrectly selected.

The fact that the oil filter captures a certain amount of dirt. The bypass valve opens when the pressure in the oil line increases, preventing the destruction of the filter element and re-contamination of the oil, after which the whole unfiltered mixture rushes into the engine and freely circulates in it. An increase in pressure can occur with severe contamination of the filter, with a high viscosity of oil, with a sharp increase in engine speed. Even short-term operation of the bypass valve in the filter is very undesirable, since all contaminants are sent directly to the lubrication system.

The air filter  plays a huge role in ensuring the normal operation of the car engine. A dirty or defective filter can cause a breakdown of the cylinder-piston group of the engine and parts of the fuel system. In the best case, contamination of the air filter will lead to deterioration of engine performance and excessive fuel consumption.

As you know, one of the conditions for the complete and most efficient combustion of fuel is the availability of sufficient air to support the combustion process. To burn 1 liter of gasoline requires 15 thousand liters of air. You can imagine how much air passes through the  air filter . At the same time, this air must be cleaned so that dust particles do not enter the engine and accelerate its wear. Do not underestimate the harmful effects of dust - having abrasive properties, dust and other contaminants that have fallen into the motor accelerate the wear of its parts hundreds of times.

The replacement time may vary, depending on the conditions in which the vehicle is used. For example, in rural areas, where you have to drive on dirt, dusty roads, you need to change it more often than when using the car mainly on suburban roads where there is no dust and urban smog. Also, in summer and autumn, air filters become more polluted faster than in winter. Recommended replacement dates are indicated by the car manufacturer, but, in any case, it is better to replace it ahead of time than to drive "to the last"

Fuel filter.  What is a fuel filter for? In any type of fuel, contaminants are contained, consisting of dust, water or sediment at the very bottom of the car's gas tank. In order to prevent containment of these pollutants in the fuel system of the engine, a fuel filter is used as one of the barriers.

Filters are available for carbureted petrol engines, injection and diesel cars.

Cars with injection engines require better fuel cleaning. This is due to the structure of the engine and the high pressure in the fuel system of such an engine. Therefore, fine fuel filters for such cars are made with a rigid body. As the material used alloys with aluminum or stainless steel.

Cabin Filter - Cabin filters are of two types: simple, it is also anti-dust (its distinctive feature is white) and activated carbon filter (it is gray). The activated carbon filter looks like a dirty dust filter, let it not bother you. This gray color gives it a coating of activated carbon.

A conventional car dust filter can be compared to a simple face shield. We pass part of this air through our lungs, so it is very important to timely replace the filter element in the cabin air filter. Filter manufacturer, recommends replacing the cabin air filter every 12000-15,000 kmrun or at least 1 time per year. If the car is operated in a region with a high dust content, then the filter needs to be changed more often.
